Sakkara, Memphis, and Dahshur are three of the most important archaeological sites in Egypt, located near Cairo. Memphis was the ancient capital of Egypt and a major cultural and political center. Nearby Sakkara served as a vast necropolis, best known for the Step Pyramid of Djoser—the oldest stone pyramid in Egypt. Dahshur is home to some of the earliest smooth-sided pyramids, including the Bent Pyramid and the Red Pyramid. Together, these sites offer a deep insight into the development of ancient Egyptian architecture, religion, and society.
